Hanson Customer Announcement - Virus Threat

New Virus Threat Detected

A new variant of computer virus has recently been detected.  The virus is a type known as ransomware and is called CryptoLocker.

The infection comes in via an email attachment (often disguised as a delivery confirmation or financial information) and when executed, a countdown timer begins demanding a payment (typically $100-$300).  If not paid, all files will be encrypted and rendered useless without the decryption key possessed by the attacker.  The only solution to restore the files in their current form is from backup systems.

Please let your staff know about this virus and caution them about opening any files, especially files that are not obvious documents.  If anyone's system becomes infected by this virus and they get a pop up please have them immediately shut off their computer and contact Hanson or onsite technical staff.
